MPPSC: Consequent on the reorganization of States on 1st November 1956, eight districts of Madhya Pradesh were transferred to the Bombay State and the remaining fourteen districts of the Madhya Pradesh along with Madhya Bharat, Bhopal and Vindhya Pradesh were merged to form the new Madhya Pradesh. As there was no Public Service Commission for the States of Bhopal and Vindhya Pradesh, these being Part “C” States, and the recruitment for these States was being done by the Union Public Service Commission

Under Section the States Reorganization Act of 1956, the Public Service Commissions for the former States of Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Bharat ceased to exist from 1-11-1956. The new Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) was constituted from 1st November 1956 by the order of the President.

The study of the Constitutional provisions has enshrined in Article 320 of the Constitution of India, envisages the importance of an efficient system of civil services in a democracy. The formation of State Public Service Commissions was conceived to eliminate:

  • Favoritism, nepotism, personal likes / dislikes, whims and fancies
  • Birth, descent or such other things as the basis of selection
  • Canvassing in any form in respect of a candidate

The main thrust, therefore, is to secure the very best and the most deserving persons for all the Government jobs in the State through objective methods of recruitment.

MPPSC must be consulted in all matters of recruitment except for the posts specified in the Constitution of India under Article 320, clause (4) of Article 16, Article 335 and 336 to be read along with State Public Service Commission (Limitation of Functions) Regulations.

Recruitment to the State Services is made through:

  • Direct Selection
  • Promotions
  • Transfer of services on deputation from one department to another or from one State Government to another
